Baseboard Installation & Painting in South Florida

Baseboards cut to fit your walls as they actually are, fastened, filled and caulked, then painted to a clean line against wall and floor.

Serving Palm Beach CountyBroward CountyMiami-Dade County

  • Baseboard installation: $6.50 per linear ft
  • Baseboard painting: $2.75 per linear ft

Baseboards hide the joint between floor and wall, which is rarely straight or square. Good baseboard work is mostly fitting: corners cut to the real angle of the wall, long runs joined where the joint will not open, and the top edge caulked so there is no shadow line.

Installation and painting are separate items with their own public rates. Installation includes filling nail holes and caulking, so new baseboards are left ready for paint. Painting can then be done by us or by you.

Scope

What baseboard installation and painting includes

  • Measuring each wall run and planning joints away from focal points
  • Cutting inside and outside corners to fit the actual wall angles
  • Fastening baseboards to the wall framing
  • Joining long runs with scarf joints
  • Filling nail holes and sanding them flush
  • Caulking the top edge and corner joints
  • Painting, when included: finish coats with a clean line at wall and floor
  • Removal of offcuts and installation debris

Preparation and installation

How we install and finish

  1. Confirm profile and material

We confirm the baseboard height, profile and material with you, and whether it arrives primed. Quantity is calculated from wall measurements with an allowance for cuts.

  2. Remove the old baseboards

Where existing baseboards are being replaced, the caulk line is scored first so the wall face is not torn when they come off.

  3. Measure and cut

Each piece is measured in place. Outside corners are mitered to the actual angle. Inside corners are coped or mitered depending on the profile and the wall.

  4. Fasten

Baseboards are nailed to the framing and set tight to the wall. On wavy walls, we decide with you whether to follow the wall or hold a straight line and caulk the gap.

  5. Fill and caulk

Nail holes are filled and sanded. The top edge and corners are caulked with paintable caulk and tooled smooth.

  6. Paint

Primed baseboards receive finish coats. The line at the wall is cut by hand, and the floor is protected or masked.

  7. Review

We check corners, joints and caulk lines with you along each wall.

Finish and system choices

Profile and finish choices

Baseboard material is purchased separately unless it is listed in your estimate. These choices shape the look and the labor.

Height

Taller baseboards suit higher ceilings and give a more substantial look. They also cover more wall, which helps where old baseboards left a paint line.

Profile

Flat, square-edged profiles look current and are easy to clean. Stepped and curved profiles suit traditional rooms and take more care at corners.

Material

Primed MDF paints smoothly and is economical. Solid wood and moisture-resistant materials are better choices where water exposure is likely.

Shoe molding

A small molding at the floor line covers the expansion gap of a floating floor when baseboards are not removed, and hides small variations in floor height.

Baseboard Installation & Painting FAQ

Questions about this service

General questions

Does the installation rate include painting?

No. Installation covers cutting, fastening, filling nail holes and caulking, which leaves baseboards ready for paint. Painting is its own per-foot rate, so you can have us paint them or handle that yourself.

Are the baseboards themselves included?

The public rates are for labor and standard installation materials such as fasteners, filler and caulk. The baseboard material is purchased separately unless your written estimate includes it.

Can my existing baseboards be reused after new flooring?

Often, if they come off without breaking and are in good condition. MDF baseboards that have been caulked and painted in place frequently split on removal. We will tell you on site whether reuse is realistic.

Why caulk the top edge?

Walls are not perfectly flat, so there is always a small gap behind the top of a baseboard. Caulking closes it, removes the shadow line and gives the painter a continuous surface for a straight cut line.

How do I measure linear feet?

Add up the length of every wall that gets baseboard and subtract door openings. We measure on site before pricing, so an approximate figure is enough to request an estimate.
