Garage Floor Coatings

Metallic Floor Coatings in South Florida

Metallic pigments moved through a self-leveling coating to form a flowing pattern with depth. Every floor comes out different, by design.

A metallic floor gets its look from fine reflective pigments suspended in a clear coating. As the coating is poured and worked, the pigments drift and settle into veins, clouds and ripples. The effect has visual depth that printed or broadcast finishes do not, and it cannot be repeated exactly from one floor to the next.

That is the appeal and the caution. You choose a color direction and a general character. The exact pattern is made on the day. A metallic floor is also smooth and glossy, which shows scratches, dust and slab flaws more than a flake or quartz floor does. It is the right choice when appearance is the priority and you are comfortable with a result that is partly unpredictable.

Scope

What a metallic system involves

  • Assessment of the slab, with close attention to flatness and surface defects
  • Mechanical preparation of the concrete
  • Repair and smoothing of cracks, pits and joints that would show through
  • A primer coat that seals the concrete and sets the background color
  • The metallic coat, poured and worked to develop the pattern
  • A clear protective top coat
  • Guidance on returning the floor to use, based on the products installed

For this system, whether preparation and equipment are included in the per-square-foot rate is confirmed in your written estimate.

Preparation and installation

How the system is installed

  1. Assess flatness and defects

A glossy, self-leveling coating pools in low spots and telegraphs ridges. We check the slab closely and tell you where the pattern is likely to gather or thin out.

  2. Prepare mechanically

The slab is ground evenly. Grinding marks are kept fine, because a clear metallic coat can reveal them.

  3. Repair and smooth

Cracks, pits and joints are filled and ground flush. Repairs are more visible under metallic finishes, so more time is spent here.

  4. Prime

A pigmented primer seals the concrete, limits air release into the next coat and provides the base tone.

  5. Pour and work the metallic coat

The metallic material is poured and moved with rollers, brushes and other tools to create the pattern. This stage is done in one continuous operation.

  6. Top coat

A clear top coat protects the metallic layer and sets the gloss level.

  7. Cure and hand over

We give you guidance on foot traffic and vehicles for the products used, along with care advice for a glossy floor.

Color directions

Rendered swatches for illustration only. A real metallic floor will not match any swatch; pattern and tone are developed on site and reviewed against physical samples.

Rendered swatch: Gunmetal
Gunmetal

Dark charcoal with silver movement. The most forgiving of the dark tones.

Rendered swatch: Pewter pearl
Pewter pearl

Light silver-gray with soft white veining. Brightens the space.

Rendered swatch: Copper and charcoal
Copper and charcoal

Warm copper tones over a dark base for strong contrast.

Swatches are rendered illustrations, not photographs and not manufacturer colors. Actual finishes are selected from physical samples.

Scope boundaries

What is not included, and what we assess on site

These are the points most often left unsaid in an estimate. We would rather you read them here than discover them later.

Important exclusions

Not included unless listed in your estimate

  • Existing-coating removal, additional heavy grinding, moisture mitigation and leveling, which are added only when required
  • Leveling to correct slab flatness, which metallic finishes often need
  • Significant crack and spall repair beyond what is listed
  • A guarantee of matching a photograph, swatch or another floor
  • Stem-wall and vertical coating, unless listed
Requires assessment

Conditions we check before pricing

  • Slab flatness, since the coating flows to low areas
  • The number and visibility of cracks and patches
  • Moisture conditions
  • How the space will be used, including vehicles, tools and furniture
  • Whether slip resistance needs to be addressed, which changes the look
  • Small projects below the review threshold for this system

Public rates

What it costs to start the math

Projects in this system under $3,500 are reviewed individually. That is a review threshold, not a surcharge.

Metallic Floor Coatings FAQ

Questions about this service

General questions

Can you match a photo I have seen?

We can work toward its colors and general character. We cannot reproduce a specific pattern, because the pattern forms as the material moves on your slab on the day. If an exact, repeatable look matters, a flake or quartz system is a safer choice.

Is a metallic floor practical for a working garage?

It can be used for parking, but it is a decorative finish. The smooth, glossy surface shows tire marks, scratches and dust more than textured systems do. For a garage that sees tools, jacks and heavy use, we usually suggest full flake or quartz.

Is it slippery?

A smooth, glossy coating has less grip when wet than a textured one. A fine anti-slip additive can be put in the top coat, which slightly softens the gloss and the clarity of the pattern. We discuss the trade-off with you.

Why does slab flatness matter more for metallic?

The metallic coat levels itself. It runs to low spots and thins over high spots, which changes both color and pattern. Slabs with noticeable dips or ridges often need leveling first, and that is priced separately.

Does the rate include grinding and equipment?

For metallic coatings, the preparation and equipment inclusions are confirmed in your written estimate. Only the Full-Flake Hybrid rate is a confirmed package that includes ordinary mechanical preparation and normal equipment.
